Mitchell Nelsen is a sound designer out of Staunton, VA who specializes in sound recording and noise making. Born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan he was surrounded with diversity from the day he was born. This is what brought life to Open Canvas Sound Design, owned and operated by Mitchell. He wanted a company that was defined by diversity through working on different types of media, while using multiple platforms to design and display the work he does and to help others bring their projects to life through the art of sound.
Before beginning his journey in the world of audio, Mitchell began his career starting at the bottom and moving to the top in one of Georgia’s most prestigious restaurants. Wanting to spend more time with his family he left the culinary world and went back to school where he graduated at the top of his class at Full Sail University. Using the work ethic instilled to him in the kitchen, he now focuses his energy on sound, which he says when it comes down to it, are one and the same. “It’s all about taking the ingredients and the tools you have to create something special that can bring people together.”
When he’s not working he loves spending time with his wife, Jennifer, and his two dogs while bringing the literal meaning to “Netflix and chill”.
